If you’re wondering whether your child or teenager needs a UK visa for summer travel, here’s what you need to know about the new ETA. Starting in April 2025, all Greek passport holders, including children, will need to apply for a UK ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) before entering the UK.
While Lingua Trips provides full support throughout the programme, from accompanying students on the flight to staying with them 24/7, we kindly remind parents that they are responsible for their child’s passport and travel documents, including the ETA.
What Is the ETA?
The ETA is a new digital travel permit for travellers from visa-exempt countries. Think of it as a light version of a UK visa: it’s quick to apply for, inexpensive, and fully online. Here are some details:
- It’s digitally linked to the passport
- It’s valid for 2 years or until the passport expires
- It covers visits up to 6 months
- Fast online application with a £10 fee (£16 from 09/04/2025)
Who needs a UK Visa ETA for Children and Teenagers?
All Greek passport holders will need an ETA to enter the UK from April 2025 onward. This includes minors travelling for short-term educational programmes like those offered by Lingua Trips.
How to apply for the ETA
The application process is simple and can be completed in a few minutes:
- Visit the official UK government website or download the UK ETA app (Google Play for Android users)
- Provide passport details, upload a recent photo, and answer basic security questions
- Pay the fee and wait for approval. Most applications are processed within hours
Important Note for Parents
While Lingua Trips is here to guide you, we cannot issue or process passports, visas, or ETAs on behalf of students. Ensuring that your child has a valid passport and travel documents is your responsibility as a parent.
